Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kris Bierwith, co-founder of Unite By Yoga, located in Oakland, California, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We're a different kind of yoga studio! We offer sliding scale online and outdoor classes. We believe that the sliding scale is important because the practice of yoga is so powerful, and nowadays, it seems like it is often priced outside of many people's reach. To us, that is getting away from the essence of what yoga truly is. All are welcome in our classes - they are for everybody and everybody. There's no judgment, no ego, just a welcoming community, and solid yoga :)

Tell us about yourself

I'm passionate about helping people. I'm also a life coach, and I just finished writing a book set to be published at the end of the year about how your thoughts affect the reality you live in. I believe that yoga is a form of moving meditation, a chance to go inward and heal and be in the present moment and come home to yourself.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I think just seeing people's faces at the end of class and how they look so different - more relaxed and at peace - than when they first came in is so gratifying. Knowing that I'm helping people and doing good in the world is everything.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Well, my business is also unique because my teachers aren't just employees - they're actually profit-sharing partners in the company. So my bottom line is extra important because it's not just for me. I have to make sure that the choices I'm making as an owner are doing right by them as well.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Follow Your Passion.
  2. Believe In Your Talents and Abilities.
  3. Stay Organized!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?
