Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Navaz Habib, founder of Health Upgraded, located in Toronto, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

At Health Upgraded, we believe that chronic health issues should not stop you from living your best life and bringing your special gifts to the planet. We help you understand the root cause of your health concerns and take back responsibility for your health.

We utilize an online functional health consultation program utilizing functional lab testing, holistic nutrition, lifestyle, and microbiome support to identify and address the root causes of chronic health conditions. We then provide coaching and support to guide you through the changes and ensure that you can maintain these long-term changes.

Tell us about yourself

I used to be very unhealthy personally. I was a chiropractor, working hands-on with clients, but I weighed 250 lbs., had high blood pressure and borderline diabetes when I was in my 20s.

I utilized these tools to help me identify the causes of my health concerns and made changes to my lifestyle that resulted in amazing changes and positive benefits. I lost 75lbs, eliminated my health conditions, and had boundless energy. This was profound to me, and I wanted to share these tools of creating optimal health with my clients, so I started Health Upgraded.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Supporting each client on their health journey is supremely rewarding. But for me personally, publishing my first book, "Activate Your Vagus Nerve," was amazing as it helped my confidence and allowed me to share my message with so many more people across the planet.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Balancing working ON the business with working IN the business. Creating boundaries and ensuring that we take care of ourselves personally as well as professionally is very important. Without that delineation, it becomes very easy to forget about one side or the other.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Become absolutely clear on the change you create and your underlying motivation. Spend time writing down what your dream future looks like, and use that to guide your decision-making.
  2. Collaborate with like-minded individuals and business owners. Your network is your net worth.
  3. Take care of your health. If you don't have the energy to function well within your business, your business will suffer in the same way that your health does.
