Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sebastian Victorica, CEO, and co-founder of UBI Meat, located in Montreal, QC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

UBI's a meat grading and monitoring platform leveraging artificial intelligence & machine learning that helps meat suppliers to measure and document quality assurance in real-time.

With UBI, the meat industry is able to increase revenue by guaranteeing a consistent product and drive production costs down by eliminating the need to over buffer and reduce the risk of costly claims.

Tell us about yourself

Since I was a child, I've been involved in the agribusiness sector as I grew up in Uruguay, spending every vacation working at our family farm. And when I started working in the meat industry, and after losing thousands and thousands of dollars with discrepancies and claims, I couldn't stand seeing so much meat getting wasted, so I needed to do something. Here's when UBI was born, first as a B2C business model helping meat importers, brokers & traders to be their eyes in the production and shipments.

After that, we realized we could also help to target the problem at the origin of the supply chain by offering our solution directly to the meat plants.

Why I love what I do? Because every day we are saving thousands of pounds, avoiding them getting wasted by discrepancies in the meat/fat ratio, we are helping to improve the consumers' food safety.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

As a company, one of the most difficult things is to come up with an A-team that rocks and help you provide and deliver our solution to the top players in the meat industry.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Hiring it's easy, but getting on board great people is one of the most difficult things for business owners, especially nowadays after the pandemic when the market is so hot and competitive.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Try to connect with amazing people who love what they do and work for their passion, not for the money! Otherwise, you will have a team for today but not for tomorrow.
