What's your business, and who are your customers?
TWM Consulting is a company that provides recruitment services in the transportation industry. We are a one-stop shop taking care of your driver recruitment needs along with providing your digital marketing platform for a fraction of the cost of a typical recruiter or marketing team. We replace, enhance or be your in-house recruiting/marketing team.
Tell us about yourself
I started in the transportation industry back in 1983, driving team with my older brother. That led to a family business that lasted till 1999. I learned all aspects of the business when you are in charge of day-to-day operations and growth. I then worked for several carriers over the years, helping to grow fleets plus start a few carriers from scratch. In 2004, TWM Consulting began. I have been involved with carriers in growing their fleets, working on pay structure and insurance, and sharing industrial knowledge. It's a challenging but rewarding business.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
To look back on the challenges that we have overcome, and standing and succeeding at the end of the day.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Taking advice from an outside source when you run out of ideas, sometimes you just don’t have the answers, but you have to keep searching.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Find a niche that can weather the ups and downs of the economy.
- Hard work does not always pay off. You have to be persistent and always look to better your product.
- Sometimes, a smaller piece of the pie is the better way. Maybe someone just needs a little outside coaching.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I was fortunate to start with an idea when I was at my wit's end. It has become a very nice business that provides a great service to those that are looking for a driver recruitment solution at a very reasonable price.
