Tell us about yourself

Hi! I'm Nicola, the owner and creative mind behind TwinFlower Studio. I officially launched my business in September 2020, a year of uncertainty and unpredictable outcomes. I had been waiting for the perfect moment to start, and it finally dawned on me that there's no time like the present! My business name, TwinFlower Studio, stems from my sister's name (Linnea), which comes from the Latin "Linnaea borealis," meaning twinflower. I've always envisioned a studio space, nothing too glamorous, nothing too perfect or formal. My business is meant to be experienced, shared, and loved. It's a blend of nature & humanity, combining the beauty of nature with people's creativity.

I've been following my career path of floral design & business for over twelve years. My passion lies in working with the seasonal product in unexpected ways to create one-of-a-kind designs, teaching Floral Design classes & workshops, and connecting people through the medium of flowers. I love the feeling when events come together - flowers add such a wondrous element, and I believe they are always the perfect finishing touch.

I'm incredibly grateful for you, the person reading this. Thank you for supporting my small business and making the decision to shop locally. I can't wait to see what we can create together.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is being published in Bridal Fantasy Magazine. Seeing my work published in a printed publication gave me the overwhelming feeling that I'm on the right path and am following my dream!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing that comes from being a business owner is finding a work-life balance. There's always something more to do, so remembering to take the time for yourself is just as important as taking the time to work on your business. Finding moments to read, journal, meditate, stretch, and move are ways I re-center and put a pause on the busyness of my days.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Waiting for the "right moment" to start will have you waiting forever. You're the only person who is holding you back from starting.
  2. If you don't know how to do something (business tax, for example), find someone who does. It's worth aligning yourself with professionals who have their specialties to help your business grow and succeed so you can spend more time focusing on what you do best.
  3. Don't be afraid to take some risks and make mistakes. It's all about growth. You're going to hit walls, feel like you messed up, and have fears about the future. Go for it anyway. The world needs more brave souls like you.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Running a business isn't always easy, but for me personally, it's always worth the struggle. Coming out on the other side after a particularly busy holiday or a difficult project gives me the awareness of what I would do differently next time. Those times where I feel like I rocked it are the moments when I experience the elation that the struggle is paying off. I'm achieving new levels of growth and insight.
