Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Anne Campbell, Founder of Twin Cities Reiki Master, located in St. Paul, MN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a Reiki Master Teacher, an Advanced Healing Akashic Records Reader, and an intuitive. I do Reiki healings, past life readings, Akashic Records readings, Chakra readings, cord healings (versus cord cutting), ancestral healing, intuitive guidance, mentorship, and inner child work. This list is not complete, as each session is tailored to the client's needs. I also teach Reiki classes and make ritual candles.

My clients come from all over the world! Luckily, Reiki can be given from a distance, so this is not a problem. I do a lot of work with people who are overcoming trauma, especially those who have survived abuse. I also work a lot with people in the LGBTIA+ community, particularly folks who are gender gifted. Many of my clients are children who are intuitive/highly sensitive. I also am a trained Newborn Care Specialist, so much of my work is with postpartum folks and their infants. Some of my clients are already very spiritually connected, while others have never tried anything "woo woo" before, and they are not sure if they believe that it is real. By the time they leave, they do, though!

Tell us about yourself

I didn't believe in Reiki before my first session. My session was a gift from my sister. It was amazing! I was in college and had an infant, so pursuing Reiki at that time was not possible. When my children got older, I had more free time. I learned Reiki.

I never set out for this to be a business. I have a master's degree in education and was teaching full-time. I started working on people for free just to practice because I still wasn't sure if I was doing anything. Soon all of my sessions were full, and I started charging a little bit. This kept on happening. People who were seeing me would refer others who would refer others. Before I knew it, I was teaching Reiki, spending each Saturday giving sessions, and I was booked out for three months!

I loved Reiki. It was so fulfilling. Each session I give is a source of awe. Part of me still cannot believe that this is real. I can't wait to see what will happen each day. I love my clients, and it is like I see their souls in their perfection. People are always worried that I will not like them because I will see their "flaws," the things they hide from others. It doesn't work like that, though.

First, I only am only told what they are comfortable with me knowing. Second, when I see something they perceive as a "flaw," I see it in the way an unconditionally loving parent, like God, would. It is shown to me with the utmost compassion and empathy. It really is so beautiful. I love that when I see people struggling, I can help them.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

So many things! Reiki enabled me to assist in finding a lost child, help labor start, rid many clients who are in constant pain of pain completely, help souls cross over to the other side, connect people with their dead loved ones, heal relationships between estranged family members, and, well, I could go on and on. I am constantly humbled and awestruck by this work.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The business side of things. I always said that I never wanted to own a business because I am not a salesperson. What I have found is with this work, I don't need to or want to convince anyone of anything. Those who I can help are drawn to me. They seek me out.

The other business things do not take care of themselves, though. The financials, client notes, responding to phone calls and emails, and keeping my website and social media up to date are constant areas where I feel I need assistance. I want to help everyone and teach Reiki to every person who wants to learn. This leaves very little time for the logistics. One day I will hire someone to do those parts for me. Until then, it is all me.

The other piece of this that I struggle with is finding time and space for new endeavors. I have so many ideas on how to serve even more people but very little time to implement them. I want to take a more active role in equity work in the Spiritual community. I want to study under some of our local experts like Echo Bodine. I want to host more intuition parties. I want to volunteer more, particularly with LQBTQIA+ youth and survivors of domestic abuse and their children. I want to teach more classes on a variety of subjects. I want to reconnect with the local Hispanic community and translate my website into Spanish. I want to make sure that my multilingualism and commitment to equity are evident on my website. I want to provide more opportunities for mentorship and for my students to practice Reiki. All of these things will come when the time is right. Just writing them down here, in a place where all can see is a step in the right direction.
