Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Riana Andriamanoelison, owner of Tsak-Tsak, located in Montréal, QC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

The restaurant is my business. Cooking has been my passion since my early childhood. When I opened my first restaurant, I really wanted to share Malagasy cuisine, thus the name TSAK-TSAK. I decided to mix the brunch of Montréal with a Malagasy twist for a unique flavour. My customers are people who just like eating good food.

Tell us about yourself

I love cooking, I feel most happy when I’m doing it, and I love sharing that happiness with my customers. It’s like I am playing when I work, so I never feel tired at the end of the day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is teaching people who have never cooked in their life. They are usually afraid initially, but after a few days, they are confident in their ability to cook.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Everything is hard, but the most difficult for me is managing my employees. How to make them happy and for them to do a good job too. They have to learn to work with different characters and personalities.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Love your job.
  2. Surround yourself with good company.
  3. Work hard.
