What's your business, and who are your customers?
I work as a private chef for small intimate events and gatherings from 2 up to 20 people. My focus remains on creating multi-course menus that revolve around the groups' favourite ingredients, often fusing flavors and techniques from a variety of cuisines.
I also run a micro sourdough bakery specializing in the traditional Italian holiday cake like bread 'Panettone. My customers can be a couple wanting to celebrate an intimate multi-course meal, small family or corporate gatherings, or friends celebrating an occasion in the backyard.
Tell us about yourself
I am a self-taught chef & baker who grew up watching my mother and grandmother cook. I have always cooked, growing up hosting friends and family regularly. The selfish joy I get from cooking for people who enjoy my food which brings them together, is what motivates me each day to do what I do!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My business allows me to be creative and flexible in the way I want.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Having a regular business income, given the nature of the business.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Try to create something of your own rather than franchising what already exists, be it an idea, a product, a service, etc.
- Marketing is important, but your product/service is the core. Spend your energy/time accordingly.
- Believe in your business. The secret ingredient is always 'patience.'
