We Light Up Your Dark Data - Trust Insights

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Katie Robbert, Co-Founder and CEO of Trust Insights, located in Norfolk, MA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Trust Insights is a data and marketing intelligence agency. We serve B2B marketers in mid to large-sized companies. Our primary function is to offer support for all things data. Data governance, measurement, planning and strategy, and tech stack setup and integration are among the various services we offer to our clients. We also work with companies to help them introduce new technology and set their teams up for success.

Tell us about yourself

There is a long-running joke that I've been bossy since I could talk. All through school and when I started working, I've had a need, a desire, to be in charge. One of my passions is seeing other people succeed, and the best way for me to do that early on was through building, managing, and guiding teams. My best moments have been when my team members moved up in their careers and found their own paths. Now, with Trust Insights, I can help guide larger teams and larger companies to find their success too. Every day I try to find the big and small wins. Running a business can be grueling, but finding the positive every day that's what keeps me motivated.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

One of my biggest accomplishments since starting this business has been getting the opportunity to get on stage in front of hundreds, sometimes thousands, of people, share my story, and help educate them on data. I've always enjoyed helping people see their own potential, and Trust Insights allows me to do that. I would also say that being able to build our Slack Community, Analytics for Marketers, has been a big accomplishment. I enjoy being able to interact with people I wouldn't have otherwise met. I've seen this community grow and thrive, and I get to witness members make new connections and help each other on a daily basis.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things about owning a business is that everything falls on your shoulders. If you lose clients, if you damage your reputation, if you make a misstep, that's your fault. I try to be really pragmatic and conservative about my decision-making, but I don't always get it right on the first try. While it can be daunting, especially in the beginning, I wouldn't trade having all that responsibility for anything.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Believe in your idea. If you doubt it, everyone else will too.
  2. Know, inside and out, what problem your company solves. Quippy names and buzzwords don't mean anything if you're not making someone's life easier.
  3. Know when to ask for help. Asking for help does not equal failure, it's the opposite. You don't have to go it alone.
