Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Garrett Molsbee, Founder of True Brands, located in Fort Worth, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Mossy Horn Whiskey is a small brand that was cultivated in North Texas. We have a blended whiskey, a Straight Bourbon, and a Pecan flavored liqueur. My customers would be anyone that likes a strong straight whiskey to anyone that loves a nice sweet and smooth, mellow drink. Of course, they need to be over 21.

Tell us about yourself

I have been in the adult beverage industry for a little over ten years. I was at a large distributing company and decided that it was time that I added growth to my life, so I took my 401k out and created Mossy Horn Whiskey! I love the industry, and I love whiskey; I just wanted to make my own. Rather than letting someone else take all my money, I figured I could create my own that is just as good as the rest for a better price! For me, this is all I have. Either my company will be successful, or I will lose everything. I don’t have any other choice.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is getting my first bottle into the first liquor store. For me, that proved that all my hard work paid off, and I finally did it. I feel like anything after that is growth and manageable. However, to get the first bottle sold showed much perseverance.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Stress is the hardest part of being a business owner. As well as being organized and keeping up with so many different tasks at the same time. As a business owner, you must be able to do many things at the same time. Juggle and put out a fire simultaneously.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

The number one thing I’d say is, “If you’re going to do it, then do it.” Do not wait. If you love it, then deal with the hard times and continue forward. It only gets better. Stay organized. And have determination.
