Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Trish Robichaud, Founder of Changing Paces, located in Keswick, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a life and business coach working with entrepreneurs with a disability or chronic condition, helping them build a stream of income that will keep them afloat when their health is rocking the boat. I'm also an international subject matter expert on the topic of disability and air travel. My team and I develop and deliver training on making customer service, employment, and information and communications accessible to people with disabilities. Motivational speaking is something I'm also well-experienced in.

Tell us about yourself

Twenty-eight years ago, I lost my job as a result of being diagnosed with MS. After years of litigation and further MS attacks, my life finally stabilized, and I vowed to bring disability out of the darkness, to normalize it as a natural part of the human condition.

Committing to never again feeling guilty for being sick, I made it my mission to work for myself and plan my business to honour and accommodate my health. In the process, I've developed a set of best practices and strategies that I lovingly share with my clients.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Providing my subject matter expertise to a firm in Australia, by developing the content for an online training program for airport employees across the globe, on how to support travelers with disabilities.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Isolation is one of the biggest challenges faced by entrepreneurs. We combat that at Changing Paces by regularly adding to our team and engaging with each other on a routine basis.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Pick a single niche and stick with it till it flies. Only then explore other markets.
  2. Get really clear about work-at-home & life-as-usual boundaries.
  3. Believe in, trust and invest in yourself.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Building a business "on the cheap" only gets you so far. You must be willing to invest in the resources needed to support the scaling of your business before you can see the scale actually happen.
