Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Trina Lee, founder of Trina Lee Physio for Life, located in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am in the business of physiotherapy and rehabilitation, helping customers find solutions for pain and mobility problems via virtual, mobile, and in-clinic visits. Like a detective, I trace clues and figure out root causes and solutions that work. My customers are anyone with musculoskeletal/ joint pain, stiffness, numbness, tingling, and weakness caused by incorrect postures, past accidents, falls, and surgery. My real passion, gift, and expertise are virtual telehealth appointments.

Why should readers want to support my business?

• You get results – many clients report 50 – 100% improvement in 1 to 2 visits (especially telehealth).
• This is because I teach you to become the best therapist for you.
• Correct posture, alignment, and movement are the key to pain management and good physical health.
• I empower my customers to be active and live healthy lifestyles.
• I and my team are highly experienced (over 20 years), trained and qualified. We use the most up-to-date methods and techniques.

Tell us about yourself

From a young age, I have trained in ballet, jazz dance, Flamenco, gymnastics, and later on took on figure skating. I love beautiful, complicated, and coordinated movement. I also enjoy using my hands for massage, healing, and the creative arts.

My mother convinced me to enroll in the physiotherapy course in Australia as she felt it would be a career in demand for years to come and that I would be good at it. I thoroughly enjoyed the course, especially the massage and manual therapy components. I really admired my lecturers and tutors for their caring, holistic approach to client care.

When I started my career, I had the opportunity to purchase and expand physiotherapy businesses which have changed and evolved over the years to now include telehealth. Living in pain is difficult. I have immense empathy for those in pain. I am motivated to help people far and wide find pain relief and live healthy, active lives.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is hiring amazing staff who are getting results for my clients and supporting them in their healing and recovery. I am building a team of competent professionals. I would like to see them succeed in their careers and personal lives. I am also honoured to have helped multiple customers break pain cycles even after years of chronic pain and get them back to activities they love.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things is figuring out how to navigate the business in a fast-changing world. Social media is difficult as I feel there is already so much information out there; so much of it is false or generic, and I want to deliver high-quality, accurate information to the public.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do something you are passionate about, but that is also in demand and will be for a good while (makes it sustainable).
  2. Know your target customer and the right channels to reach them.
  3. Really care about your customers and deliver the best service for their benefit. When you are motivated by love and passion, success will follow.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Some people are successful because they find out everything they need to know about business. They figure out how to maximize the resources to build a successful business. For others, they are adaptable and innovative; they see an opportunity and can foresee the evolution of that opportunity way into the future.

I rely on a combination of knowledge, experience, intuition, and faith in the mysterious force of a higher power, which gives wisdom and guidance on the what, how, when, who, where, and why (mission). One of my future visions is to start an NGO that provides basic water, sanitation, and healthcare in third-world towns and villages worldwide.

It is important to have a vision that makes you excited. Having faith in something bigger than yourself can help make your seemingly impossible vision come true.
