Tell us about yourself

I started Trimazing! upon retiring as a fire captain and paramedic after a 20-year career as a professional firefighter. Beyond my firefighting duties, I ran the Firefighter Wellness/Fitness program for my large, urban fire department after making healthy lifestyle changes, losing 60 pounds, and becoming an adult-onset athlete! Today, I help civilians, in addition to first responders, achieve healthy lives.
To be Trimazing! is to be three times better than amazing. It is the trifecta of doing amazing things for your health, animals, and the planet. It is what drives me, sharing whole plant-based food, a healthy lifestyle, sustainability, and fitness, so you can have a life that is truly…Trimazing!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is helping thousands of people transition and maintain healthy lives. Trimazing! clients have reversed pre-diabetes, Type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure. They have normalized cholesterol to levels where they no longer require medication, lowered PSA levels to normal, achieved a healthy weight, and feel, well, Trimazing! This is a mission-driven business, and my clients’ successes are my successes.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

As a solopreneur, the hardest thing about being a business owner is being all parts of the organization. I’ve had to learn how to hire outside help and partner with others for many aspects of my business so I can focus on my clients and high-level strategic planning. It’s very easy to get mired down in the details and lose connection, time, and focus.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Establish a clear mission, values, and goals to steer your business in the right direction and prevent focusing on things that don’t serve what you’re trying to achieve.
  2. Connect, connect, connect! Establish relationships with others in your community, within your industry, and those in completely different businesses—you never know how those connections can lead to partnerships and opportunities.
  3. Take care of yourself. Starting a business is a lot of work, stressful, scary, and takes time. Remember to breathe, be kind to yourself, take a break when you need it, and use setbacks as opportunities for growth. It is a lot of work, but it is so worth it.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Remember to be your authentic self and not lose sight of your values. Your business is a reflection of who you are. Customers, partners, and your community will choose you for your authenticity and care. Listen to my Trimazing! story and how this authenticity carries over into everything I do in one of my many podcast guest appearances at https://trimazing.com/media/.
