Habits, Obsession, and Impulsiveness - Tricia Parido

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tricia Parido, Certified Life Coach and Master Addictions Specialist, located in Arroyo Grande, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

People hire me because they are exhausted from the guilt, shame, and remorse of hiding their problems with alcohol, food binges, sugar, shopping excursions, obsessive exercise, chronic dieting, excessive people-pleasing, and more... because I have the fix for lacking personal control. I am the Master Coach, CEO, Creator, and Supervisor for Turning Leaves Recovery, Life and Wellness Coaching, an International Professional Coaching practice.

Tell us about yourself

My story is long. I had more than 30 years of experience languishing in control needs, trauma, chemical substance abuse, dependence, eating disorders, body dysmorphia, abandonment issues, anxiety, and so much more! My addictions were far more involved; they didn't match the narrow perspective society holds; it wasn't simply chemical in nature. I had a process and behavioral addictions as well. And my recovery journey isn't represented by my sobriety date! No, my recovery journey has been well over 25 years. Realized I was on to something, People struggling with addiction, whether they be a process, behavioral, or chemical in nature, those people who are being held hostage by their habits and negative attachments deserve a recovery journey that shows them that they, too get to choose how they experience living and how they see themselves functioning in their lives! And for those who do need higher levels of care, the stabilization of treatment alone is not sufficient! People need to learn the practical application of psychological skill sets and tactics that will provide them with the level of emotional intelligence they didn't know they didn't have but need, especially when returning home in early recovery to the same house, spouse, familial unit, bills, job, all-around environment, they were unable to function effectively in the first place.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is that I have learned to truly live for myself first without feeling guilty selfish, punished, or restricted. I carry this with me in all categories of living. My biggest professional accomplishment as a business owner is the creation of a system, a program, that has consistently provided people with the life satisfaction they desire to attain at rates well over 95% since its creation in 2015. Although I am extremely excited about the newest addition, teaching, credentialing, mentoring, and training new coaches. That mastermind has a unique flair in that it is centered around ensuring practitioners gain the level of emotional intelligence they need to be protected against burnout, transference, and countertransference (carrying the weight and pain of their clients into their lives and inserting too much of their personal stuff into the client's world)

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

That's a great question. I would say for someone in the space of personal and professional development, it is navigating all of the marketing, especially with all the online algorithms, etc. It is just hard to stay up on the trends.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get your mindset right first.
  2. Know your why.
  3. Know your what.

And then stay in your lane! Be the master of what you can own. Stop trying to be so broad to attract more people.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Be grateful. Collaborate over the competition every day! Build teams for and with your clients to meet all of their needs. Having collaborative partners brings greater value!
