Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in photography but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Trevor Brady, a fashion advertising photographer based in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a fashion and portrait photographer. Some clients I have worked with are Adidas, Lululemon, Nike, Lee Jeans, Reebok.

Tell us about yourself

I went to advertising school and started a career in design and art direction. After some years of working in advertising, I needed a change and shifted to being a photographer. The more fake our work becomes, the more I look for authenticity. Somewhat of a contradiction since our world is about portraying an illusion of a beautiful life. I'm trying to create an illusion of real life. I'm motivated by change and discovering differences.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Leaving the comfort of a successful advertising career and creating a more successful and rewarding visual career lifestyle.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Ignoring trends and learning to know and trust myself.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be authentic.
  2. Learn who you really are.
  3. Embrace and love yourself.
  4. Be kind.
