Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Travis McNulty, Clinical Director and Founder of McNulty Counseling and Wellness, located in Florida, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

McNulty Counseling and Wellness is a multi-location group counseling center comprised of Licensed Mental Health Counselors, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners. Our clients are individuals, couples, or families seeking therapy and mental health services to address a variety of concerns, such as anxiety, depression, stress, relationship issues, trauma, grief and loss, and other mental health challenges. We help all different age ranges of children, adolescents, adults, and seniors.

Tell us about yourself

I lead a growing network of private practices specializing in mental health in the Tampa Bay Area. I am passionate about providing excellent mental health services and helping others. One of my main responsibilities is to effectively oversee and guide a team of over 20 clinicians across four practices to ensure that the most efficient and effective treatment methods are utilized while also replicating our successful McNulty Model to distinguish ourselves from competitors. Additionally, I am responsible for scaling and managing operations across our practices to foster growth and ongoing improvement.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is finding clinicians who are dedicated to a quality of excellence for mental health that is unrivaled in our industry. We're also highly successful in matching our clients with the right clinician the first time.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Clients can't always afford our mental health services, so we do everything that we can to make sure no one gets turned away because of finances, but it does get difficult.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start with an end goal before you start. All decisions will fall into place if you know what the end looks like.
  2. Ensure you create your business with intention, and it will come to fruition.
  3. Never give up.
