Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tracie Mcleod, Founder of Living Our Visions of Empowerment LLC., located in Burlington, NC, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My company is Living Our Visions of Empowerment LLC, which I have coined The Love. I create books as well as motivational and inspirational journals that help with self-worth, birthing purpose, and building confidence. This comes from my personal love of writing through diaries and journals over the years. I didn't know that just doing those simple tasks would help me to create my first book, The Parables of Tracie. I found a passion for empowering others through encouragement and strategy. I also do motivational speaking, and I coach single moms and entrepreneurs in life and business transformation.

Tell us about yourself

I didn't have any thought of being a business owner in the beginning. I just knew that I couldn't see myself retiring from a 9-5 business. I was constantly praying about my purpose and how I should be helping people. I have children to take care of, and I wanted to leave them generational wealth. God gave me the answer of creating a book, and everything to follow started from my yes to creating a book. As I began that writing process, I also started creating journals because I wanted my journals to inspire people as they wrote in them. As my business began to grow, so did my confidence. I had to become the woman I always saw, the confident extrovert.

I continue to push myself every day because I know that I am positively impacting someone's life. I have two wonderful children who look up to me and tell me they can't wait until I'm a bestseller. There are people who have never seen anyone in their family own a business or make it as a single mom outside of the system. I want to encourage you as you read this to know that you can make it. It is hard, but as long as you trust God, nothing is impossible.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment has been reaching people and seeing their lives elevate. It is answering the call in my life and seeing me change into a person that influences others to walk into their purpose. It is the progression they make for the better. It is the beginning of journaling and understanding their emotions and thinking more. It is the wisdom gained over time that keeps me making better decisions.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about being a business owner is what you want to happen. You may feel as though you have a million-dollar product that doesn't sell. You have to remember that your creative idea is still brilliant. Revamp and keep moving. It is hard to continue when you do get what you want because now you have to be consistent in that place. Let's say you make the million dollars sell, but you have been operating with just you and no staff. Now you want to quit because it's overwhelming. It's tough; you always have a plan and then maybe not the finances. Through it all though, keep going.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Trust God.
  2. Educate yourself on everything, sales, packaging style, branding, etc.
  3. Give yourself Grace. You are just starting; you will make mistakes, but it is okay. Learn from them and keep improving.
