What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a singer, songwriter, and Hawaiian teacher. My customers are people who want to learn Hawaiian and those who like listening to my music.

Tell us about yourself

I first got started uploading songs and had a song go viral from the Moana animated movie. After that, people were asking for Hawaiian lessons since I speak Hawaiian, and that is where my YouTube and social media presence began as a singer and Kumu (teacher).

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is telling the real story of the Hawaiian Language and the history of its comeback. The mother tongue was outlawed in 1896, when the provisional government, who overthrew our Queen Lili`uokalani, banned the Hawaiian Language from being spoken in the public school system. My goal is for it to come back and thrive forever.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things is to find the motivation to keep going in light of challenges and difficulties.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Keep going no matter what.
  2. Keep coming back to your why.
  3. Keep reminding yourself of #2 and never give up.
