Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kostas Kapelas MSc, Co-Founder of Total Health Now Ltd., located in London, United Kingdom.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Total Health Now Clinic is a one-stop-shop for patients dealing with all manner of different, profound, and chronic health challenges. Its goal of making a positive change in the lives of the people who walk through its doors is something that it staunchly works to achieve for each of its patients, helping them to manage symptoms, investigate ailments, increase energy levels, and let them get back to their lives with vim and vigour. Headed up by me and Lana Kapelas, a husband-and-wife duo, the clinic boasts a team of the best holistic and naturopathic experts who strongly believe in the value of holistic health.

Tell us about yourself

I had a successful career in hospitality for 15 years and worked for companies such as Claridge's, Rolls Royce, and Warner Brothers. I left the industry after a serious health burnout and decided to follow my passion for holistic health which led me to acquire over 30 qualifications. For the past 13 years, I have been running Total Health Now©, a Central London clinic specialising in gut health, detox, and weight/fat management! My clinic has helped over 2000 clients to improve their health since 2009.

I believe that a toxin-free lifestyle, emotional and spiritual stability, proper nutrition, breathing, and exercise are the keys to good health. I seek to treat the whole person, not just the symptoms.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

There are a lot of nuances that go into working with people and coaching them toward the optimum lifestyle. I think one of the biggest accomplishments for our business is always to provide daily exceptional service to our clients. So, I would say that our biggest achievement will be winning multiple awards, "The extraordinary Clients Results Award" in 2021 and The Best Holistic Clinic 2022, as being recognised by independent companies that we are doing a great job every day by showing up in our client's health success.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing that I didn't expect was learning when to say no and staying focused. When you start a business, people present you with all kinds of ideas and opportunities—many of which are off-target and take precious time and energy away from what you really need to focus on to get your business off the ground.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Surround yourself with the right people. The right mentors and strategic partners aren't the only people with whom you'll need to align. Surrounding yourself with a great team is equally important. Build your staff with smart, talented, and driven employees who share your vision.
  2. Stay on top of the maturing business. You can't afford to be rooted in the present and solely focused on the day-to-day. It's crucial to keep one eye focused on the future, including upcoming movements in your industry.
  3. Find a healthy work-life balance. Running a successful business requires an inordinate amount of time and energy. It's paramount to find a healthy work-life balance, even though it can be a challenge to do so.
