What's your business, and who are your customers?

Total Body Fitness changes lives - one at a time, through our multisport events, training classes, and all-inclusive adventure trips to Thailand. We put on triathlons, duathlons, trail runs, mountain bike races, swim-run races, kids events, and even dog runs - for athletes of all ages and abilities. Plus, we offer multisport classes, clinics, and workouts that educate, motivate, and are fun. If you have ever wanted to visit Thailand - TBF Travel is the adventure travel leader in the Land of Smiles.

Tell us about yourself

Total Body Fitness began from my passion for fitness and the sport of Triathlon. I became inspired to motivate and teach others about health, wellness, fitness, and athletic performance and started one-on-one personal training in 1991. Next was group classes for marathon runners and triathletes, and in 1998 Total Body Fitness put on our first event: the Granite Bay Triathlon. Since then, we have put on over a thousand races and have introduced individuals and entire families to the multisport lifestyle, helping them reach their goals and achieve their dreams

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Our greatest success is our reputation. Total Body Fitness is known for the best events, with the best team of supporting staff and volunteers, and our group training classes and workouts are known for being the best coaches. We pride ourselves on remembering people and their names and treating each individual like our most important customer. We make our customers feel like family, whether they race with us, train with us, or travel to Thailand with us.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Running your own business requires many talents. The hardest thing in being successful is knowing when to seek help. Reach out for help - either from professionals in the industry or from support staff and new employees with ideas. Listening to the people at the bottom of your company is what will help keep your company on top.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find something you love to do that you are passionate about.
  2. Learn everything you can from others in the same type of business.
  3. Remember your customers' names. It makes them feel important.
Running a business is a 24/7/365 venture. Don't expect your own
business to be easier than a 'real job'. It's not, but it is more satisfying, potentially rewarding, and you may be the best boss you have ever had.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Our motto is: If you work out, everything else will too. The first step to success is self-belief. Find your passion, follow your dream, and discover your path.
