Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lisa Guenst, Founder of ToothShower, located in Collegeville, PA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

ToothShower is a shower-powered water flosser/toothbrush/gum massager for use in the shower. Our customers are anyone that wants an easier and more enjoyable way to clean their teeth at home.

Tell us about yourself

I have been a dental hygienist for over 20 years and want to put a stop to gum disease. My son was an engineering student and needed a senior project, so I had him create a shower-powered water flosser prototype. It worked great, so we went into crowdfunding and sold 4000 units. Over half of adult Americans have some form of gum disease. It starts between their teeth where their toothbrush is missing. I am passionate about helping people treat and prevent gum disease at home.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Thousands of people are loving ToothShower and having healthier mouths. Healthier mouths make healthier people since gum disease and systemic health are connected. People with implants, bridgework, and dexterity problems are finding oral care easier and more enjoyable at home with ToothShower.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Not having a business background and having to make daily business decisions along with finding money to start and run the business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have a mentor.
  2. Know your field of expertise well so that the business will be in to stay passionate.
  3. Find investors.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Starting a business is a long, hard road. Be strong, have support, and lots of money.
