Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in floristry but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Raphael Aronowicz, co-founder of Tonic Blooms, located in Toronto, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Tonic Blooms is an online flower delivery service helping make people’s day across Ontario.

Tell us about yourself

Tonic Blooms was created out of necessity. When my business partner and I realized that there were no good flower delivery options in Toronto after some terrible experiences, we decided to take matters into our own hands and create the flower delivery experience everyone deserves. Our customers trust us to handle some of their most precious moments, happy and sad, and we take that responsibility very seriously! We’re bringing the joy back to sending flowers by offering a straightforward, fun, and reliable experience from the moment you land on the website to the follow-up communication and check-ins days after the flowers have been delivered. It’s flower delivery you can count on.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The flower business is tough. So much can go wrong as you deal with natural perishable products and the supply chain that comes with them. But in spite of these challenges, we’re super proud that we’ve been able to give back to the community and support many charities that are important to us, our team, and our customers.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The biggest challenge of being a business owner is dealing with the administration side of things that you don’t really learn in school or through training. Things like taxes, payroll, insurance… the corporate side of things can really bog you down, but they are all necessary and important pieces of the puzzle to make sure things run smoothly as you grow.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Trust your instincts.
  2. Expect the unexpected.
  3. Never give up.
