What's your business, and who are your customers?
Toddler Talk is an online resource for parents of toddlers around the world who are looking to support speech and language development at home.
Tell us about yourself
Toddler Talk was born in the early winter months of 2020. I worked as a pediatric speech therapist in San Diego for several years. I saw that families were often frustrated by the limited resources available to them. Speech therapy usually required weeks to months of waiting before families could schedule their first appointment. Working families struggled to find a time to realistically attend speech therapy sessions.
Understanding the irreplaceable value of early intervention or supporting children's development in the first three years, I set out to create parent-friendly resources for supporting speech and language development at home. Every day I am inspired by parents all around the world who reach out via our social media and web platforms to ask questions and give thanks for our expansive collection of free family resources.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Our greatest accomplishment at Toddler Talk is reaching a global audience. Our mission has always been to provide all families with free, parent-friendly resources to support early communication development. We've connected with parents all over the world to support speech and language development during unpredictable times when families had nowhere else to turn.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things about working on Toddler Talk has been spending more time alone in front of the computer than ever before. Luckily it's easy to connect with other speech therapists and families on the internet to remind myself (and my team) why we do what we do.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Here are my top 3 reminders to myself, regardless of what stage I am at or what project I am working on:
- Stay in action.
- Keep it simple.
- Make sure you're having fun (Type 2 fun is ok!).
