Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tim Feldmann, Founder and Director of Miami Life Center, located in Miami, FL, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I have been a yoga teacher for 25 years. I am teaching beginners and advanced yogis all around the world.
Tell us about yourself
I came into yoga as a professional dancer. I started doing yoga to help me heal from an almost fatal accident in the mountains. For years I worked as a dancer, dance teacher, and choreographer while I was practicing yoga to keep my body healthy. In 2005 I skipped dancing and focused my efforts on yoga only. To this day, I continue my studies of yoga and yoga philosophy in the city of Mysore in South India every year.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I feel privileged and lucky to say that, over the years, my teachings have become a cherished part of many yogis' lives. My wife and I run a successful, world-renowned yoga center in Miami called Miami Life Center while I also travel and teach to many inspiring students around the world.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Running a small business requires lots of diligence, effort, and many hours send on trivial administrative business necessities. In my case, the daily grind of the kind of things that the customer never sees and likely simply experience as 'natural,' but which is actually hundreds of hours of preparatory work behind the scenes, is what has been the more effortful part of making yoga my livelihood.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Make sure you really love what you do. That will keep you going on a difficult day.
- Expect lots of trivial work to make the front end function well.
- Be grateful for every break you get.
