Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tim Brophy, Co-Founder of OneDegree Careers, located in San Diego, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We provide a platform for users to explore, select, and pursue skilled careers which are high-paying but don't require a 4-year college degree (or the debt that comes with them). Our customers are training programs that want to increase admissions with proven candidates who are serious and driven.

Tell us about yourself

My co-founder, Gabe Bensimon, and I have been friends for 10+ years. We kicked ideas around here and there but never settled on anything until OneDegree. We're stoked about helping rebuild the American middle class and making an impact in individuals' lives for the better.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Raising money with Antler and officially incorporating was huge for us. Since 2021 we've secured over $100k ARR and grown our team from two to five.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Constantly setting your own goals and staying on track. It's not easy. But then again, if it were, everyone would be doing it. Having a solid co-founder is a huge help. When one falls down, the other is there to pick them up and get them back on track.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Vet your idea with 100 potential users/customers to truly understand their pain points.
  2. Don't analyze/strategize too much. Just do it!
  3. Execute, execute, execute - speed is your friend as a startup. Why do something tomorrow you can do today? Why do something today you can do right now?
