Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tiffany Sattler, Founder of Elysium Copy LLC., located in Derby, KS, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I keep female service providers in their zone of genius through done-for-you updates of their copy & automation.

Tell us about yourself

Like most entrepreneurs, I was drawn to the freedom, flexibility, and fulfillment of owning a business. But I quickly became aware of my strengths and passions that complimented my clients. Things like...

  • Transforming a creative's high-level ideations into goals, KPIs, and actionable steps, so it becomes a reality.
  • My love for data and background in teaching makes me the perfect person to dig into the crunchiness of SEO & analytics and turn the results into understandable points, so biz owners are empowered to make informed decisions on their marketing plans.
  • I'm articulate and professional while being laid-back and authentic. This puts clients at ease so we can dig into hard conversations and be vulnerable. The result? So much more biz growth.

NGL, being the sole provider for my family of 4, is pretty darn motivating.
But what motivates me to dig back in during the lows of business ownership is seeing the transformations, progress, and achievements of my clients.

I've watched clients transform from unsure fledgling biz owners to thought leaders and community pillars. Clients have texted glowing reviews and been featured in prominent outlets like LinkedIn Top Voices. Supporting their growth, so they have a broader impact really lights my fire!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Starting. Sounds simple, but having the faith to just start was the biggest hurdle. As a new biz owner, there are all kinds of struggles:

  • imposter syndrome
  • scarcity mindset
  • employee mindset
  • financing the transition (esp. if your family relies on the income).

I had to work HARD on my mindset in the beginning (and it's still not easy). God took care of the rest.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Mindset. From a cultural, societal, media, and familial perspective, entrepreneurs often face starting a biz with a lot of baggage.
"It's me vs. them."
"Selling feels sleazy."
"I have to work 40hrs to make progress."
"I have to have all the answers, a website, testimonials, and a full portfolio before I can think about marketing myself. Otherwise, they'll find out I'm a noob and won't want to work with me!"

(Does any of these sound familiar?)

I'm here to tell you it's not easy or fast. But you CAN consciously work on making mindset shifts, so you empower yourself to be the biz owner you want to be.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

So starting, running, and growing biz are all different stages. And, honestly, I'd dial down my recommendations depending on the person and where they're at in their biz. But I think these 3 hold true across the board:

  1. Be mindful of and open to your season of life because they will change.
As a highly successful workaholic, when I had to juggle biz ownership with full-time childcare during COVID, I struggled with showing up as the mother and biz owner I wanted to be. I felt compelled to do all the things. It wasn't until my coach asked me why I felt this way that I realized my season had changed. And I was being called to downshift my biz to grow in motherhood. After reflection, I changed the way I operated my biz and home. BOOM. The weight was lifted, and I felt fulfilled again.
  2. Consider a coach to catalyze your personal, professional, and biz growth, but ONLY if you're willing to put in the work. Coaches can be a BIG investment, which is hard if you're just starting out. But they will catalyze your progress. Because if you were positioned to jumpstart your biz alone, wouldn't you have done it by now? Do your HW on them - Stalk them on SM. Jump into the DMs for a convo. Make sure they're your vibe and align with your values before you go all in. Because when you do, you've gotta commit to see your return.
  3. Get your SOPs and automation down. Your time is money. So the more unpaid admin that's automatic, templated, etc., the more time you're saving yourself or your team (which you're investing in!). If you're working from templates and automation, you'll have consistency in brand voice and timing for a seamless client experience. This builds trust and rapport, which is a must-have to increase your ROIs. Shameless plug -> I help biz owners set up these one-and-done processes! So whether you're unsure where to start or don't have the time for it, reach out!
