Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Charlotte Morehouse, Founder of Thyme and Compass, located in Harker Heights, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Thyme and Compass is a wellness-centered company that strives to work alongside its clients to provide them with the education, tools, and resources they need to achieve their health and fitness goals. Clients have ranged from busy moms to empty nesters and teens. I have also worked with young athletes, marathon runners, and members of the Army Special Forces to aid in further performance through more beneficial nutrition and exercise routines.

Tell us about yourself

Hello, I am a certified health and life coach, personal trainer, and group exercise instructor. After earning my Bachelor's and Master's degrees, I have devoted over 10 years to the fitness industry and over 5 years as a  health educator and wellness coach. As someone who struggled with my weight from a very young age, I can relate to the burden it brings to all aspects of life. After living years in the extremes, from overeating to meticulously counting my macros and chasing after the next goal that I thought would grant me happiness. I constantly pushed my body to keep going with unrealistic expectations. This was when the real epiphany came; after pianistically accomplishing each goal I set, I still found flaws. I was at my wit's end, and I believed there had to be a simpler way to be healthy and happy. I started adjusting how my body was fueled, shifting my relationship with exercise, and modifying my mindset to create a plan that created the happiest and healthiest version of me. Now I take these same principles to encourage and aid others in reaching their own goals. Everyone's journey is different, but I truly believe everyone has the ability to navigate a way to feel proud of their accomplishments.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest success has been seeing my clients' joy and satisfaction when they finally realize they can obtain the health and wellness goals they have set before them. From running their first 5k to losing over 100 pounds, these individuals inspire me to continue to do what I do as well.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Balance. As a work-from-home mom of 3 littles, the days are long, and it seems as if there is never enough time to get it all done. I am constantly adapting my systems for efficiency and to avoid burnout. While I am still a work in progress, I know progress is impossible without balance.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Go at your own pace. You are exactly where you are supposed to be! Free yourself from the comparison trap; you are unique and perfectly made for your own business. Stay true to what you are passionate about, and let that guide you to your goals.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Never give up! Every step in the right direction is still a step towards your goal. No matter how small or how slow your journey is, it is still important.
