What's your business, and who are your customers?

Thomas Hobbs Florist is a premier florist that has been in business for over 40 years. We pride ourselves on providing elegant, innovative, and timeless bouquets and arrangements to our clients. Our clients include high-end corporate accounts, events, weddings, and personalized pieces for every occasion. We love being a part of your life milestones, special occasions, and moments of connection.

Tell us about yourself

I was drawn to this industry initially by the beauty and exquisiteness of flowers. After taking a course in flower arranging, I was absolutely hooked. It is the aesthetics of this industry that really appeal to me. Textures, hues, subtleties, composition, and creativity continue to keep me engaged and motivated to grow my business and provide something that is unique and special. I love knowing that every piece that my team creates will surprise and delight whoever receives these flowers.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Through my business, I have had the opportunity to support many worthy causes in the province that is close to my heart. Sponsoring charity events and providing flowers to those who need a little bit of brightness and happiness has been immensely fulfilling and broadened my philanthropic reach. Despite the last few years of uncertainty and turmoil, Thomas Hobbs Florist has continued to grow and thrive, and I couldn't be prouder.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Owning a business comes with its own sets of challenges, such as dealing with the day-to-day operations, but where I find the greatest challenge is trying to find a balance between work and my personal life. It is a constant challenge being a full-time mom, running a business, and being an active member of my community.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. If it's your passion- pursue it, and don't give up!
  2. Celebrate the small victories.
  3. Network and get involved with your community.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

We source flowers from all over the world to provide an exceptional variety of flowers to suit every taste. We particularly love local sourcing products from small farms in British Columbia. An incredible amount of roses, tulips, ranunculus, and peonies are just a few of the beautiful blooms that are now being grown in greenhouses and fields in our province. The variety and color hues that are now available are something to be truly celebrated.
