Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in training and education but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lori Olson, Founder of The WNDX Group Inc., located in Lethbridge, AB, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

The WNDX School of Mobile Apps teaches people how to create and launch successful mobile applications.

Tell us about yourself

I've been a software developer and mentor for over three decades. More recently, I discovered a passion for teaching, and I first taught live Ruby on Rails workshops, then taught developers how to create mobile applications (my personal interest). When I decided to double-down and switch my business from mostly freelance development to mostly teaching, my business coach, Todd Herman, asked me why I wasn't teaching these mobile app concepts to business owners and entrepreneurs, too; I realized I had a far larger audience than I ever anticipated. I truly enjoy helping people to breathe life into their app ideas.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The creation of my 6 Pack Apps program, where I teach the 6 Vital Steps from Idea to App launch success.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Finding the motivation to keep plugging away on the bad days and weeks (because there are always bad days and weeks).

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Reach out for help. Your local chamber of commerce, your local economic development authority, your local tech incubator. So many sources of help, from groups who are motivated to help you succeed.
  2. Celebrate your wins every week. Even on a bad week, you will find at least one success to celebrate. But if you don't look for the wins, sometimes all you see are the frustrations.
  3. Don't give up. You may need, at times to pause, to regroup, to alter your direction. But successful people are the ones who just keep trying to take the next step in the right direction.

Where can people find you and your business?
