Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jenna Bowers, Founder of The Way Witch, located in Portland, OR, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I provide witchcraft services such as tarot readings, energy work, moon circles, ceremonial officiant, house clearings, mentorships, and more. My clients tend to be on a healing journey and are often experiencing inexplicable issues, such as nightmares or hauntings. I help people with trauma, ancestral healing, core wound resolution, as well as grounding, centering, and energetic protection.

Tell us about yourself

I started down the path of witchcraft at a very young age, declaring myself a witch at ten years old. It was a private pursuit for the first twenty or so years, but in my thirties, I started to work with teachers and see clients. I love what I do for so many reasons. I love helping people and being of service. I love encouraging new witches to find their own magical path, and I love that every session is different. I get to set my own schedule and live the life I want while also taking real steps toward healing the world and making it a better place. I don't think I'll ever get tired of my work.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Earning the trust and being a safe space for people in turmoil. I have only ever received positive feedback and wonderful word-of-mouth referrals, so I know I'm doing something right. I am reclaiming the word "witch" bravely. It feels good to be living my values and helping others to do the same.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Charging money for my services. Money in general. It is difficult to play the rules of capitalism when I don't believe in it.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Trust your instincts. Get clear on what you want your lifestyle to be like and build your business around your happiness. Value your time.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

It is a great joy to work for yourself and set your own rules. It takes courage to create a path where there wasn't one. It will always be easier to work for someone else, but if you value freedom and personal ethics working for yourself is the way to go.
