Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sarah Harmon, Founder of The School of MOM, located in South Hamilton, MA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

The School of MOM supports women and moms in integrating mindfulness and self-compassion into their lives to ultimately learn how to be the human they want to raise.

Tell us about yourself

I'm a mental health therapist, yoga & mindfulness teacher, and mother to two girls. After working in my private clinical practice with women and moms and becoming a mom myself, I realized that we all needed the right education, community, and resources to BECOME the present, compassionate and resilient humans we want to raise.

The School of MOM was birthed (pun intended) out of my personal experience as a mother and its intersection with my professional experience in my therapy practice working with women and moms. The desire to be more conscious and intentional than my mother was able to be with the limited resources she had continually drives me to show up and practice what I teach daily. My two girls, Libby & Sage, are my biggest teachers and motivators to model presence, resilience, and kindness.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Witnessing the breakthroughs and shifts in the women I work with and realizing that we are collectively changing the way that women and moms show up (for the better!) for themselves and their kids for generations to come.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Balancing work and life! And reigning in my ambitious energy that wants to do everything all at once.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do it.
  2. Find a business strategist in your niche that can advise on foundational decisions so you aren't floundering and trying to figure out what platforms to use and where you "should" focus first.
  3. Trust the blips and hard moments - they're part of the process and 100% necessary for growth!
