Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Megan Womack, Franchise Owner of The Salad Station, located in Mobile, AL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

In a time when we are so focused on being healthy, The Salad Station offers truly fresh ingredients to create a full meal to your liking and portion amounts. Our unique pay by the pound option allows each guest to only pay for what they would like to eat at an affordable price while offering an extensive variety of gourmet options.

Tell us about yourself

Having four very active children, my husband and I were always searching for healthy options to quickly grab a meal and move on to the next activity. This was becoming more and more difficult, so we decided to open our own. When we started on the hunt for this opportunity, we found that The Salad Station brand is locally owned and operated by a family with the same Christian values that we hold very near. After meeting with the corporate office and family, it took no time for us to decide this was the right direction.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is not only being able to teach new team members how to be a successful part of a work environment but also being able to employ several people at a pay rate higher than the average restaurant during a time of so much uncertainty.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

There are always obstacles in everything that you do. How those hurdles are jumped sets business owners apart. However, one of the hardest things for me is keeping up with our team members and guests' needs and wants in a constantly changing environment.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. If you stay ready, you don't have to take the time to get ready.
  2. Remember why you started.
  3. No matter what "they" tell you, do the right thing no matter the cost.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Life gets tough; keep your chin up and remember YOUR purpose. Don't forget to take time for yourself. You can't give what you don't have.
