Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dionne Detraz, Founder of The Rustic Dietitian, LLC., located in St Petersburg, FL, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
At Ground & Root Nutrition, we offer Registered Dietitian support to help cancer survivors build a holistic recovery plan that supports healing, optimizes treatment, and reduces the risk of recurrence.
Tell us about yourself
I worked as a Dietitian in outpatient clinics and an Integrative Medicine Center before starting my online practice. When my family and I decided to move to France (from California) 6 years ago, it was the perfect opportunity for me to start an online business so I could continue to do the work that I loved and use my platform to reach many more people.
My business has evolved a lot over these 6 years where I now offer products, programs, & courses in addition to my 1:1 coaching, and I love that I get to support people all over the world. My goal is to reach 1 million people going through cancer and to help them have a more positive experience. This is what motivates me each and every day.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Growing my business to a place where it can support me & my family financially while also adding on Team Members (we've added 3 new members this past year).
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Having everything rest on your shoulders...especially the salaries of others. And knowing that not everything is going to work out perfectly the first time or even as quickly as you'd like it to. I've really had to practice the arts of patience and trust.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Hire a business coach. I wish I had done that sooner. It was the biggest yet best investment I've made in my business.
- Give yourself a work schedule. It's easy to just keep working when you're an entrepreneur, and quickly your work-life balance becomes skewed, and you get burnt out. I'm now at a place where I equally prioritize time for my self-care, family, & business.
- Don't do it alone. Hire before you think you're ready. I can't believe how everything changed as soon as I finally hired my first Virtual Assistant.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I love being a business owner and can't imagine ever going back to working for someone else. Yes, it's not always easy, and sometimes everyone else gets paid before me, but the possibilities are endless. There is so much more I can do and accomplish and people I can serve by having an online business. It's an incredible gift!
Where can people find you and your business?
