Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in a clothing line but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Brittny Beeker, founder of The Mothahood Movement LLC., located in Sunrise, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Our business is a fashion-forward comfort line designed to help mommy's on the move feel comfy while looking cute. As moms, we naturally put our children and family 1st, & often times we get pushed to the bottom of the barrel. That tends to manifest itself physically, & before you know it, you've been wearing the same old holy leggings with a shirt that is decorated with stains from you and your kid's day today. All of these elements, in turn, start to take a toll on your mental health. As mothers, our mental load is already overflowing. It's true what they say, "when you look good, you feel good," and as moms, we tend to want to feel comfortable, but why not make it look cute. Keep it comfy, but keep it cute.

Our collection is for mommy's who enjoy that simplistic, minimalistic, comfy vibe. Moms who love oversized T-shirts and have a style sense to dress it up or dress it down. Moms who want to be comfy in joggers but also want to look like they're ready to hit the road. Ultimately our collection is for any mom who wants to look and feel comfortable but also looks and feels cute.

Tell us about yourself

My name is Brittny, and I am a mommy of 2. My partner Stephanie is also a mommy 2 of young ones like myself. I asked her to be a part of this business with me because it would just be amazing to have two regular mommy's doing something they love while touching & inspiring as many mommies along the way.

What inspired me to launch this business was that after becoming a new mom and having my daughter, I was no longer the girl I used to be and got completely lost in motherhood. I no longer recognized myself, and I didn't know who this new person was. I never did anything for myself anymore, and my life completely revolved around my baby. I barely had the energy to brush my hair, and I kept the same old t-shirts and leggings and biker shorts in rotation. I was silently suffering from postpartum depression, and I was too ashamed to talk about it, and it started to manifest itself physically.

After having my son a little less than two years later, I vowed I wouldn't lose myself the way I did with my daughter. I vowed to prioritize the little things that could help me from slipping back into a dark place, even if that meant getting up and getting dressed with nowhere to go. Also, I had my son in May 2020 in the midst of shelter in place in the first wave of the pandemic, so to say I was not eager to leave my newborn to return to work in the heart of a pandemic is a bit of an understatement. So I took the drive not wanting to return to work and matched it with my desire to create something that would make me feel better inside and out, so MOTHAHOOD was born.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is doing it with my pandemic baby by my side and not giving up. In a world where you have constant front row access to everyone's successes, highlight moments, and happiness, you can easily become discouraged. Also, being able to maintain my mindset in a society that glorifies instant gratification and makes it seem like when you start something, if you apply a couple of simple steps and strategies, you will make it big time. But the reality is good things take time and starting, growing, and running a business is far from easy. Match that with motherhood, and sometimes it feels impossible, but I did not, have not, and will not give up.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is maintaining a level mindset. Growing a business is not a linear journey. There are many highs and lows and different seasons throughout. If you do not know your "why" & are not constantly working on strengthening your mindset, it will only be a matter of time before you throw in the towel.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Know your "why." Suppose you don't know your "why," it will be easy to give up when times get hard.
  2. Commit to the journey. Starting a business is not a get-rich-quick scheme. Good things take time, and nothing worth having comes easy.
  3. Run your own race. Don't discourage yourself by comparing your chapter 1 with someone else's chapter 10. What God has for you is for you, and what He has in store for you will never miss you.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

If you have the slightest idea that has been sitting on your heart, just GO FOR IT. Jump and grow wings on the way down.
