Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ashley Phaigh, Co-Owner of The Living Blu, located in Grants Pass, OR, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

The Blu Room is an atmosphere of UVB light, sound, and frequency. Within this atmosphere, the brain easily shifts into the theta state, which allows the body to accelerate its natural healing abilities. People seek out this unique therapy for relieving physical pain, decreasing stress, eliminating PTSD, and increasing focus, all while getting a boost of vitamin D.

Tell us about yourself

I had done massage therapy for about 6 years before I learned about Blu Room technology. I knew from working with so many different types of bodies and personalities that often, when people had a big shift in their mentality and perception, physical ailments seemed to heal quicker or sometimes even vanish completely. I've always been thrilled by how our internal world gives instruction to the outer. Our body is constantly responding to our thoughts and emotions. The Blu Room allows people the space and the perfect environment to drop outside of time and reinvent their internal dialogue.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I would say it was a huge accomplishment to have a self-sustaining business after the first month of being open, even during the time of COVID. We opened in January 2020, and the lockdown happened in March. However, because of the UVB light that we use inside the Blu Room, studies were released on how UV light denatured all viruses and bacteria after only 3 mins of exposure. I refer to my business as "My Dream come Blu" because I had wanted to open a Blu Room in my hometown for at least 5 years before it came to fruition. I am a living testimony that holding on to a dream and being willing to put in the work for the long journey is absolutely worth it. I also have the best business partners I could have ever imagined. We each bring our own gifts to contribute to what we have created, and it is an honor to share this future technology with our community.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the biggest challenges is balancing work and being a mother. I have an almost 9-month-old daughter. I am super grateful to be able to bring her to work with me on most days. However, running a spa-like environment while wrangling a baby is...intense. Making time to have Blu Room sessions for myself is a necessity.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be a walking billboard - Know that anytime you are out and about in the community, you are advertising your business. It's important to always have business cards or brochures to be able to hand them out.
  2. Tell your story - be willing to share your story of how you got to where you are and why you do what you do.
  3. Keep visualizing your dream - It's so important to stay inspired, especially before your business opens its doors. Sometimes you will meet people who have doubts or detracting opinions about your outrageous dreams. You don't have to win them over; just smile and nod and keep going in the direction you're headed. That being said, it is important to surround yourself with uplifting people who help fuel your fire.
