What's your business, and who are your customers?
If you can master your emotions, you can master your life! The Keitt Institute is a center that helps people understand their feelings and improve their well-being. We specialize in assisting people to become intelligent about their emotions to succeed in life. Using the best practices from instructional design, effective communication, and educational psychology, the Keitt Institute creates high-powered, engaging, research-driven experiences that help people develop their emotional understanding and enhance their well-being.
Tell us about yourself
For most of my life, my mom has been helping people find success in life, and in high school, I decided that I wanted to work with her to do that. Helping people and being of service has always been a passion of mine. While in college, I started helping my mom run her annual conference for women. After college, I came to her with the idea to create a program to help high-achieving female students prepare for the emotional changes associated with post high school life.
It was something I wish I had, and I knew we could help girls achieve even more in life with our training. That idea was the foundation of #StrongGirls, the program that launched our non-profit. Since then, we have created several experiences that help teens and adults understand their feelings so that they can lead themselves and others more effectively. I continue to stay motivated to do my work because life is a series of relational exchanges, and people need the tools to relate effectively. I want to help them figure out what they feel to move through life better and feel more satisfied.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Our biggest accomplishment is our #StrongGirls program. We have helped over 500 teenage girls get smart about their feelings. As a result, our graduates are more prepared to handle the ups, downs, and changes in their lives as they prepare to become the next generation of female leaders.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the most challenging things we have faced is helping our customer base understand and pay for our novel services. Our instructional model and content are something most people have not experienced before, and they are difficult to understand without going through them. So we face challenges with explaining the value of the experiences we create.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Lead yourself before you lead others.
