Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in coaching but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with MarLisa Hollands, Founder of The Juicy Life Coach, located in Victoria, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a Life Designer that supports soulful people that do "all the things" for others to step into their authentic power. From self-leadership, they can create the wealth, abundance, holistic health, life force purpose, and deep love they desire and deserve. Using my HAPPYR framework, they have a clear path of what they want, why, how to get there, and what may get in the way. These generous souls are here to change the world, and I help you find your voice, strength, and authenticity to do just that.

Tell us about yourself

I have been coaching people since I was a teenager (and I didn't realize it!) I always wanted people to achieve that burning goal they had and heal what hurt. This journey formally started with becoming a personal trainer and helping people create inner and outer health and training in trauma, feminine energy, reiki, parenting, Robins/Madanes Coaching, and High-Performance Coaching.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is that I get to help one person at a time change their life. I help them find the tools and the knowledge deep inside them that they did not have when they were young. I help them find all of the power they have and that they can create anything they want that is in alignment with their life.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I find "advertising and marketing" can be challenging when my little voice says, "I just want to coach!". This allows me to see how I can connect with people in a way where I still am speaking to one person. It may have just been an Instagram post, but it could have changed the trajectory of someone's day; they have that hard conversation or honored their own boundary. That day is the start of a new way of being.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. How can you BE the person you see in the future? How can you be them now?
  2. Get some help with time management skills. Your habits of overwork, hiding, criticism, etc., can rear your head when you are venturing into new territory.
  3. Come to an agreement with your partner about it. Don't let starting a business affect your relationships in unknown ways. If you are working all of the time or spending money you don't have, why would they be on board with that unless you have had that conversation of why, how much, and goals?

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Our business is not us as a person. It is an extension of our beliefs, and what we see is needed in the world. Don't invest too much of your whole being into your business, don't lose yourself. You have friends and family, hobbies and interests that need your influence as well.
