Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health & wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kyle Greenfield, Founder of The Joy Within, located in London, UK.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We all have an annoying little voice in our heads. And - unless you're delighted all of the time - chances are this little negative voice is getting in your way. It can make you feel stressed, worried, or down. These negative thoughts keep you from living up to your full potential.

The Joy Within teaches you how to eliminate this little negative voice by tuning in to the natural joy within you. We introduce a simple, step-by-step path to help you step back and quiet the mind, so you can become more aware and choose better-feeling thoughts. It is the fastest path to feeling a sense of peace, joy, and well-being every day.

Tell us about yourself

When I was younger, I struggled with depression. That struggle led me down a years-long path to master my mind, and - once I "figured it out," - I realized that finding joy shouldn't have to take years. There's a shortcut, so to speak, that comes when you learn how to connect to your inner energy.

This natural joy is available anytime, anywhere. With practice, you can use it to guide you toward any goal you set for yourself.

I started The Joy Within to share these simple insights with others because - let's face it - everyone struggles with something. When you unlock this inner joy, even the most everyday moments come alive, and life takes on new meaning. We all deserve that level of satisfaction in our lives.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I started The Joy Within in 2018, and we've grown well in the last four years. We're on track to impact over 500,000 people this year, which blows my mind! We have a solid group of a few thousand core students, and I work one-on-one with a handful.

I think of my accomplishment in terms of the impact I can have on our students. My best days are when I get a random email from a student I've never met telling me how much we've helped. I can't even describe to you how powerful that is. It's the reason I go to work each day.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about running a business is deciding where to place your focus and then sticking with it long enough to see results. It's easy to second-guess yourself and wonder if you're making the best use of your time and resources. And there is no "right" answer to that.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Focus. Narrow your scope to 1 product and one marketing channel for one target audience. This is so hard to do in practice, and most entrepreneurs I see jump around switching strategies far too often.
  2. Lengthen the time horizon by which you measure success. You need a solid understanding of the entrepreneurial lifecycle, and that includes many iterations of "failure" (we call it "testing"). The challenge is: you do not know how long the testing period will take, but if you keep learning from each iteration, you will eventually succeed. That means you need to be prepared to persist, no matter what.
  3. Just do it. I have wasted so much time reading and learning different strategies before acting, only to find that just getting started is the best teacher. Just begin and pivot as needed as you go along.
