Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in cannabis infused edibles but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Andrea Hoy, owner and founder of The Hazy Camper, located in Quesnel, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a Health Canada approved cannabis infused edibles manufacturer. Our customers are people who are looking for a high quality edible with great taste, great high and no unnecessary ingredients.

Tell us about yourself

My sister and I are both breast cancer survivors. We both find relief from cancer treatment side effects in cannabis. My sister’s diagnosis was the catalyst of our company as we saw there was a need for a consistently dosed and delicious edible that was not full of sugars and unpronounceable ingredients. Although the road to getting licensed to do what we do has been long, difficult and expensive, we continue to work each day to leave a legacy for our kids.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Our biggest accomplishment so far has been getting federal and local governments’ approval to do what we do.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner is only having each other to indefinitely rely on. We both wear many hats and burn the midnight oil to get to where we are.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Top three tips to someone starting a business is to stay focused, follow your dreams and don’t expect the road to success to be without many highs and lows. Aside from the fluffy stuff though, make sure you have ample capital for your business and living expenses and do your market research to ensure the demand for your product/service.

Anything else you'd like to share?

Cannabis is safer than alcohol despite the stigma.
