Tell us about yourself

I started this business when I was on maternity leave and realized I wanted to be able to stay home with my baby while still contributing to family expenses. Our family farm has unlimited avocados, and I have always loved sending them as a gift or care package to friends and family. So my husband thought, why not turn that into a business? I went back to school, took some business classes, and learned how to run a business from the ground up. Over 2 years later ( and 2 babies later), I am still shipping delicious avocados. I am able to take care of my kids from home.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment would have to be learning everything from scratch. Going into it, I had no idea how to run or even start a small business, so I had to teach myself everything. I used to be a teacher, so my love for learning has always been there.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing that comes with owning my own business is time management. I have 2 boys under 2, and that is a full-time job in itself. Scheduling out time in my day (usually during naps) to work on my business is essential, and I don't take that for granted.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't give up, even when you think it is impossible, just keep going!
  2. Learn how to do things on your own. Everything can be googled these days and is worth taking a try before spending money hiring someone else.
  3. Word of mouth is your best market tool. Talk up that amazing business to everyone!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?
