What's your business, and who are your customers?
I make sustainable home, bath, and body care products with reusable and compostable packaging, including non-toxic soy candles. My customers are mostly sustainability-minded locals who value natural skin care and green living.
Tell us about yourself
I love working with herbs and essential oils for my skin care products and coming up with unique scent blends for my candles. I'm also a perfectionist, so one of my favorite parts about my business is developing products my customers will love and come back for. My goal is for people to replace the products they usually buy from big, national companies with more local, sustainable options.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Working with other brands to collaborate on custom scents and packaging and reach new customers.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Since I work a day job, it's hard to dedicate enough time to grow my business as much as I'd like.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Start small! Focus on just one or two products so you can get them just right before expanding. It's tempting to try and create everything you're dreaming of selling, but it gets overwhelming and expensive very quickly.
