Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Connie Marples, founder of Boosh Food, located in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We make ready-to-eat or easy-to-prepare 100% plant-based gluten-free meals sold at grocery retailers and online stores across Canada. Most of our customers are not vegan, but people are trying to eat less meat and replace it with some plant-based yummy alternatives.

Tell us about yourself

I have always been a good cook and LOVE sharing healthy food with others. To me, nothing brings people together like a warm, comforting meal. Life is busy, and Boosh helps people transition to a more plant-based diet. Knowing that I am assisting in this inspires me.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Each step of growth has been a journey, but I guess the number one biggest excitement for me was when I took my small local business public and got the funding required for growth. You can have a great idea or product, but if you don't have proper financing, it's a struggle. I am grateful we are well supported for exponential growth.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Trying to do it all and keep life balanced. As an owner, you always have many moving parts, and then you add life to that, and it can be overwhelming at times. Perspective is key.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Make sure whatever you choose to do, you are super passionate about it! It will likely take more money and more time than you think, so be prepared for that. Think good thoughts. Focus on the good. Deal with the challenges but don't wallow in them. You need to stay positive to succeed.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

As in life, treat your customers, suppliers, and employees how you want to be treated.

Where can people find you and your business?

Boosh
