Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Katy Girlinghouse, Founder of The Fit Pelvis, LLC., located in McKinney, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

The Fit Pelvis Physical Therapy and Wellness is a physical therapy clinic focused on pelvic health. We work with adults who are eager to live their best life, without medications, without surgery, and without pain.

Tell us about yourself

I started The Fit Pelvis because I was looking for a better way to help people meet their goals while also supporting my health and practicing what I teach my patients. Balance as a Mom is incredible, and working for myself has allowed me to set healthy boundaries while excelling in my career and at home.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Learning to have hard conversations successfully. It's never easy, and I've always been hesitant to have conflict, but I've learned how to bring out the sage in myself and others in order for a conversation to be fruitful and mutually beneficial so that everyone can learn, grow and move forward.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Managing people. I can take classes, figure out numbers or outsource tasks, but people are not always predictable, and they have their own wants and needs. Bringing in new people helps the company grow and challenges me to grow, but it can also be difficult.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find a business mentor. Don't spend a fortune but meet with like-minded business owners and share ideas and learn from each other's mistakes.
  2. Outsource things you aren't good at or don't have the skillset or time to learn. It seems like a waste, but it will save you in the long run.
  3. And most importantly, you don't have to be perfect to get started. You just have to put your ideas and work out into the world and learn as you go.
