Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in pet care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Phyllis Meyer, Owner of The Feline Purrspective, located in Manitou Springs, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

The Feline Purrspective is an educational venture to provide cat owners with resources for taking care of their cats. This includes a weekly blog post on cat behavior, cat care, and instructional videos.

Tell us about yourself

I have worked as a veterinary technician for over ten years in the state of Colorado. Most of this time was spent in a cats-only practice. In 2020, I received my certificate in feline behavior from the International Society of Feline Medicine. I have always been interested in the bond between cats and their people. Even though I was a life-long cat guardian, I felt I learned so much in this course that I wanted to share what I learned with other cat owners.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Navigating the internet and social networks to get my message out still remains my biggest challenge - however, I feel that I have accomplished quite a bit in this area, considering that I am a "one-woman band."

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Maintaining my enthusiasm has been a challenge. The hours are long, and there are times when I wonder if what I am doing will make a difference. Marketing myself and my website can be frustrating as there seem to be a lot of people out there who are doing something similar and are having more success, although I question the veracity of their message.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Believe in yourself and don't give up.
  2. Be ready to work hard - your life won't be your own for a while.
  3. Think outside the box - be open to new ideas and ways of doing things.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I would like to thank all my supporters on Patreon. You have kept me going in more ways than just financially.
