What's your business, and who are your customers?
The Family Room is a resource center for expecting parents and young families to learn, find support, connect, and be real during one of the biggest transitions of their lives. Our two physical locations in the Los Angeles area offer classes from Childbirth Prep and Newborn Care before the baby arrives to Parent & Me, Toddler & Me, Music, and Yoga, plus other important groups like feeding and postpartum support.
Tell us about yourself
Like so many other founders, the beginning of The Family Room story really starts with my own experience in motherhood and a gaping hole of support for new parents in my community. Ultimately, I believe all parents should feel empowered, supported, and have access to a community. So eight years ago, I created what I wish existed and have never looked back.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Just four days after I officially opened the second Family Room location, the world shut down due to the pandemic. I am so proud of The Family Room team for immediately pivoting and continuing to support parents when they needed connection more than ever. I was able to hold on to both locations.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
For me, delegating is really hard! I have learned that in order to grow, you need support.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Define and believe in your purpose, do your research and trust your gut, and build community.
