Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with  Kristen Stevens, Founder of The Endless Meal, located in Squamish, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I run a popular recipe website called The Endless Meal. Our specialty is developing creative recipes that are easy to make.

Tell us about yourself

I started the website as a hobby, never dreaming it would turn into a business. In 2011, I didn't even know that making money with a recipe website was possible. Now, I manage a team, and together we develop and photograph recipes, create recipe videos, connect with our followers on social media, and maintain a high-traffic website.

My favorite part of my business is when I hear from people who have made my recipes and have gotten rave reviews. Knowing that I can help people create healthy meals for their families is the best.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is growing my business, which is large enough to support several team members. It's an amazing feeling to be able to provide well-paying jobs in our community.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about being a business owner is learning how to stop working. There is always so much to do, and it's a challenge knowing when to stop. I've gotten better at that in recent years, but I'm still a workaholic.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Look to where you want your business to be in 5 and 10 years, and figure out what it will take to get there. Who do you need on your team? What specific goals do you need to accomplish? Write it all down.
  2. Understand that, especially at the beginning, and you'll have to work hard. Entrepreneurship isn't for you if you want a 9-5 job. But if you're willing to do the work, it'll pay off in the end.
  3. As your business grows, focus on the tasks you love (and are good at) and hire out the rest.
