I own The Coffee Mess, located in Hilliard, Ohio. We roast excellent coffee for coffee drinkers in the Columbus area and across the country.

Tell us about yourself

I started working in coffee to put myself through college 23 years ago. Every day I'm proud to contribute to the cultural life of Hilliard.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Keeping the biz running through the chaos of the last few years. It's been really wild.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

There is no instruction book. Making every single decision, from the most mundane to large-scale grand strategy, can be exhausting.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Keep your overhead low.
  2. Show up every day.
  3. Knowing your core values and goals for the business will help you immensely with decision-making and time allocation.
