Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Craig Chalifour, Principal and Co-Founder of The Chalifour Consulting Group, LLC., located in Portsmouth, NH, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a full-service business consulting firm utilizing a holistic 3-phase approach to business solutions: Discovery, Development, and Implementation. We work with small businesses typically classified as under 50 employees.

Tell us about yourself

I got my start after college working in a niche insurance consulting role, where I was able to climb the corporate ladder very quickly. That experience and my mentors in that role were what gave me the skills to tackle starting a consulting firm.

A few years ago, I had a bit of an internal battle in that I did not know what I was passionate about. The more I looked, all that I could think about was business and business solutions. I soon realized that business was my passion.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is scaling a company so quickly. We have experienced over 200% growth for the last few years, and that is continuing to trend.

On top of that, it is the reviews and feedback that we get. When a past or present client emails me, there is truly no better feeling—knowing that you are making an impact.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Delegating and time. This is something that we help business owners with, but we are not perfect either. It is easy to work all the time and take on all the responsibility, but in the long run, it is damaging to your business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure you love what you will be doing.
  2. Develop a routine of some sort. You need to be organized and balanced.
  3. Set goals that work for you and check them regularly.
