Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Justin Newman, Owner and Director of The Banyan Holistic, located in Pinecrest, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am the owner and medical director of an innovative holistic healthcare center, which has a coordinated team of specialists covering all aspects of holistic and functional medicine. The majority of our clientele are those people who are looking to achieve and maintain a life of health, well-being, and fulfillment without medications. Some examples are people who are overcoming chronic illnesses, athletes striving for better performance, as well as those who are looking for help creating a lifestyle that handles stress and pain in a natural manner.

Tell us about yourself

I was diagnosed with ADHD as a kid and was never medicated, but rather grew up with holistic and functional solutions for attention issues as well as all other health concerns. I was well aware of the possibilities offered by holistic medicine that are not explored in the mainstream. I am more passionate than ever to share and guide others along their journey and to present a lifestyle that can be very simple, convenient, and ordinary to sustain consistently on a day-to-day level.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

We have been able to repeatedly make an impact through community service as a noted presenter on the United Way Speakers Bureau, for Miami Dade County Public Schools, for American Airlines, the States Attorney's Office, and several other organizations.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Juggling the technical aspects of the business, along with the management and training of other professionals and staff members, in addition to keeping the vision and direction of the business, has been a challenge. It has required, among other talents, to harmonize logic, passion, and intuition in a way that helps us to communicate both our message and our culture to the world at large.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be very clear and consistent with your message.
  2. Be persistent and find the nutrients for the growth of you, your team, and your business within the challenges.
  3. Establish and nurture a network of referral partners who can mutually support your business and its niche.
