Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kasey Young, Founder of The Balance Center for Natural Health, located in Millville, NJ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

The Balance Center is a wellness studio offering yoga, fitness classes, and Ayurvedic consultations and treatments. Our customers are people who are looking for ways to lead a healthier, happier life, finding balance in bodily systems through diet, lifestyle, herbal treatment, meditation, yoga, and yogic breathing.

Tell us about yourself

I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis when I was 25 and found Ayurveda (Indian system of medicine) in my search for a better way to heal my body. This changed my life, and I decided to go back to school to learn Ayurveda so that I could help others. I opened the Balance Center to bring this healing modality to our community, and it was a natural fit to incorporate yoga into my offerings. My motivation comes directly from my students and clients, as I see how positively yoga and Ayurveda impact their lives.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is hearing the words "I feel so much better" from my students and clients. The Balance Center is a gift that seems to keep giving to each person whose life is impacted by our offerings.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

For me, the hardest thing about being a business owner is finding the balance between work and family life. I have two very active children, but I also have a very strong support system to help manage this balance.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find something that you are passionate about and do that. This makes it feel like you aren't at a "job" but truly doing something that fills you up.
  2. Network! Find people in similar businesses and learn from them. Don't be afraid to ask others for help. You may be surprised by the kindness and generosity of others who've been through what you are experiencing.
  3. Be consistent and persistent in following your dream. Success doesn't happen overnight, but if you work hard, it can happen!
